Curriculum
At Tomah Baptist Academy, we combine the highest standards of quality Christian educational curriculum with the most affordable solutions for our parents. To do this we offer a combination of excellent academic resources to best meet the needs of your child. We are predominently a traditional school, using A Beka curriculum as well as some A.C.E. (Acclerated Christian Education) for children with special educational needs. Through assessments, we will be able to determine your child's exact skill level and can purchase the correct materials, eliminating wasted purchases and unnecessary worry. Below are some detailed descriptions of the curriculum.
Descriptions of Curriculum:
A Beka Curriculum is a traditionally based approach to education with the Bible integrated throughout all subject matters and textbooks. The A Beka Book approach to Christian education keeps learning lively, interesting, and memorable. Their materials reflect sensible theory that is firmly anchored to practicality. A Beka Book materials have been developed as a result of 50 years of actual classroom experience in Pensacola Christian Academy, one of America’s largest and most respected Christian day schools.
Their skilled researchers and writers do not paraphrase progressive education textbooks and add Biblical principles; they do primary research in every subject and look at the subject from God’s point of view. Of course, the most original source is always the Word of God, the only foundation for true scholarship in any area of human endeavor. Thus their publications are built upon the firm foundation of Scriptural truth and are written by dedicated and talented Christian scholars who are well grounded in the practical aspects of classroom teaching. We combine the excellence of the A Beka textbooks with the accredited video courses taught by master teachers.
ACE Curriculum utilizes the workbook teaching method. Each unit is called a PACE and each course includes twelve PACES, that a student completes during the year. ACE has been a leader in the home education movement since 1970. The ACE program is individualized and nongraded and designed to allow students to work at their own level of achievement. The basic subjects of ACE are Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Word Building (spelling and word usage). Every manuscript meets educational requirements and adheres to biblical precepts. When a student enters the ACE system, their academic ability is diagnosed, and any learning gaps are addressed.
Students set goals of how much work they will do in each subject each day, putting the responsibility for their progress on the student. As the student works individually through the PACE, they do a series of reviews, and at the end sit a preparatory test. They then sit a PACE test.
